At a time when many public school districts are cutting Fine Arts programs out of their budgets, we believe that these are integral to the development and education of the whole person. Along with our STEAM program, which highlights art as an important part of a well-rounded education, we also include music, foreign language and art instruction as part of our regular curriculum at all grade levels.
Most everyone agrees that a foreign language is learned most naturally and easily when instruction begins early. That's why we begin Spanish class in Kindergarten and continue it through 8th grade. As a result, many of our graduates are able to test into advanced classes when they begin high school.
Music is an integral and enriching part of life. Yet, it is a mystery to many. Through our comprehensive music program, students learn elements of rhythm and melody, musical notation and how to apply it to different instruments, identification and appreciation of different genres, and even explore career paths related to music.
All of our students love art class. They love being creative in a way that's not always possible in other classes. What they may not realize though, is that practicing art develops many subtle skills that are extremely valuable later in life such as thinking outside the box, recognizing and applying good design, and open-mindedness. Besides many hands-on projects, students enjoy field trips to the Art Institute of Chicago and other activities that expose them to this enriching subject.
